Well after working for years and listening to many mentors the one I still remember among the top is this story.

No one can make you serve customers well.
That’s because great service is a choice.

Harvey Mackay, tells a wonderful story about a cab driver that proved this point.

He was waiting in line for a ride at the airport. When a cab pulled up, the first thing Harvey noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine. Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and rounded the car to open the back passenger door for Harvey .

He handed my friend a laminated card and said: ‘I’m Wally, your driver. While I’m loading your bags in the trunk I’d like you to read my mission statement.’

Taken aback, Harvey read the card.

It said: Wally’s Mission Statement:
To get my customers to their destination in the quickest, safest and cheapest way possible in a friendly environment.

This blew Harvey away. Especially when he noticed that the inside of the cab matched the outside. Spotlessly clean!

As he slid behind the wheel, Wally said, ‘Would you like a cup of coffee? I have a thermos of regular and one of decaf.’

My friend said jokingly, ‘No, I’d prefer a soft drink.’

Wally smiled and said, ‘No problem. I have a cooler up front with regular and Diet Coke, water and orange juice.’

Almost stuttering, Harvey said, ‘I’ll take a Diet Coke.’

Handing him his drink, Wally said, ‘If you’d like something to read, I have The Wall Street Journal, Time, Sports Illustrated and USA Today.’

As they were pulling away, Wally handed my friend another laminated card, ‘These are the stations I get and the music they play, if you’d
like to listen to the radio.’

And as if that weren’t enough, Wally told Harvey that he had the air conditioning on and asked if the temperature was comfortable for him.

Then he advised Harvey of the best route to his destination for that time of day. He also let him know that he’d be happy to chat and tell him about some of the sights or, if Harvey preferred, to leave him
with his own thoughts.

‘Tell me, Wally,’ my amazed friend asked the driver, ‘have you always served customers like this?’

Wally smiled into the rear view mirror. ‘No, not always. In fact, it’s only been in the last two years. My first five years driving, I spent most of my time complaining like all the rest of the cabbies do. Then I heard the personal growth guru, Wayne Dyer, on the radio one day.

He had just written a book called You’ll See It When You Believe It . Dyer said that if you get up in the morning expecting to have a bad day, you’ll rarely disappoint yourself. He said, ‘Stop complaining!
Differentiate yourself from your competition. Don’t be a duck. Be an eagle. Ducks quack and complain. Eagles soar above the crowd.”

‘That hit me right between the eyes,’ said Wally. ‘Dyer was really talking about me. I was always quacking and complaining, so I decided to change my attitude and become an eagle. I looked around at the other cabs and their drivers. The cabs were dirty, the drivers were unfriendly, and the customers were unhappy.. So I decided to make some changes. I put in a few at a time. When my customers responded well, I
did more.’

‘I take it that has paid off for you,’ Harvey said.

‘It sure has,’ Wally replied. ‘My first year as an eagle, I doubled my income from the previous year. This year I’ll probably quadruple it.
You were lucky to get me today. I don’t sit at cabstands anymore. My customers call me for appointments on my cell phone or leave a message on my answering machine. If I can’t pick them up myself, I get a reliable cabbie friend to do it and I take a piece of the action.’

Wally was phenomenal. He was running a limo service out of a Yellow Cab. I’ve probably told that story to more than fifty cab drivers over the years, and only two took the idea and ran with it. Whenever I go to their cities, I give them a call.. The rest of the drivers quacked like ducks and told me all the reasons they couldn’t do any of what I was suggesting.

Wally the Cab Driver made a different choice. He decided to stop quacking like ducks and start soaring like eagles.

Depending on how dependent your company is on computers, IT (or information technology) can be your biggest ally or the biggest thorn in your side.  While people tend to refer to IT for anything that involves computers, information technology can encompass a very large variety of business needs from servers to websites.  There is no one-size-fits-all IT professional any more than there is a one size fits all employee of any type.

If you don’t know a lot about the type of computer services you need, do a little homework.  Talk to people, read books, whatever it takes.  You need to know enough to globally figure out what you company does and does not need.  If you are not totally comfortable with IT, you might consider hiring a consultant to help you figure out what you need.  Like most professional, IT professional are passionate about what they do and they can tell you all kinds of things that you could do (and it will look and sound really, really cool).  That doesn’t mean that you should do it.

You will need to decide whether you to hire employees or whether you should just use a consultant.  If you have a need that is highly complex at the beginning, but easy to maintain once it is in place, you may be better off with a consultant.  If, on the other hand, you have fairly complex needs and anticipate that this will be the case for quite some time, you might want to consider hiring full-time employees.  It may also be a combination of the two.  (Just be sure they agree with each other!)

Be very specific about deliverables.  What do you expect this person (or these people) to accomplish?  How soon do you need it?  Information technology is strong on the science side, but there is a certain art to it as well.  The more specific about how you want to things to look, the types of storage you need (and how much), what you want your website to say, etc., the higher your chances of getting what you need in a timely manner.

Be prepared.  Have some contingencies built into your budget and into your schedule.  Good IT professionals are in high demand.  It is entirely possible that someone will get hired away from you.  IT is also often highly complex.  The more complex your needs, the more contingencies you should allow for.  A bad hard drive, unavailability of certain parts, a change in the technology, connection problems—all these things can put a cramp in your budget and your timeframe.  Also allow for upgrades and maintenance.

Building the proper IT infrastructure can be one of the most important parts of your business, particularly if your business is heavily dependent on computer technology.  Mistakes at the beginning can be very costly down the road and can cost you thousands.  Be sure you do your homework, hire good people, and know what you want.  Be active in the process and meet with your IT professionals on a frequent basis.

Your body is designed to be approx. 70% water. The most critical fluid in your body, your blood, is mostly water. Your muscles, skin, and vital organs all contain and need large amounts of water for optimal health. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, delivers nutrients, removes waste, and provides energy to the body.

Signs of Dehydration aka not enough water
Your body loses approx. 2.5 liters of water every day just through normal bodily functions. You lose water through urination, respiration, and perspiration. If you are physically active or athletic, you lose even more water. Although “thirst” is an obvious sign of dehydration, the TRUTH is your body is in need of water long before you feel thirsty.

Symptoms of mild dehydration include chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches, and constipation. A strong odor to your urine, along with a yellow or amber color indicates that you are not getting enough water.

Unfortunately, for many of us, our lifestyles and dietary habits have a negative effect on our pH balance. For example, there are two characteristics of this country’s most popular beverages, soft drinks and coffee that make it difficult for you to maintain your optimum pH balance.

First, they are caffeinated and/or artificially sweetened, which makes them diuretic–the fluid lost because of these beverages can actually exceed what the beverage provides. Consequently, many people are unknowingly in a mild state of undiagnosed dehydration.

Second, these beverages are also very acidic. Because the waste produced by your metabolism is already acidic, the consumption of large amounts of acidic beverages creates even more downward pressure on your pH. Add to this the fact that a lack of aerobic exercise has resulted, for many people, in diminished cardio-pulmonary capacity. Mild dehydration, excessive consumption of acidic beverages and diminished cardio-pulmonary capacity translates into not enough water and oxygen to efficiently convert energy and eliminate waste. Is it any wonder we need stimulants in our beverages to get through the day? The acidic pressure on our pH balance is tremendous!

Is Your Body Acidic?
Some of the symptoms associated with acidic conditions in the body include weight loss problems, insomnia, water retention, arthritis, migraine headaches, constipation, colds, flu, stomach ulcers, acid reflux and even cancer. Many health experts agree that an overly acidic body greatly diminishes the effectiveness of your immune system and usually leads to disease.

Acidic conditions in the body are caused by: junk food, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, sodas, coffee, sports drinks, alcohol, environmental toxins, and stress. Considering this long list of items that can lead to acidic challenges in our body, it becomes very clear why it is so important to drink an alkaline beverage everyday.

WHY pH balance is critical to your health
In order for the body to maintain optimal health, it needs to manage a very narrow pH range (slightly alkaline) – especially in the blood. In fact, the body will go to almost any length necessary to maintain your blood pH at 7.34 – 7.45 because anything outside that pH range could result in death.

The process of restoring pH balance in your body always includes proper diet and nutrition. This means eating alkalizing foods (vegetables, low sugar fruits, etc.) and getting proper nutritional supplementation. However, the foundation of healthy pH balance is in drinking plenty of alkaline water.

Perhaps it’s time to make a change in the water you drink. We can’t live without it so why not drink water that tastes great all the time and has some unique, helpful characteristics as well.

One of the great debates in the multi-level marketing world is how to introduce someone new to the company.  Do you let them know about the product first or about the opportunity to recruit and build a team?  While it may be that there is not a one-size-fits-all solution to this question, most of the time it is better to lead with the product.

One of the reasons that a person might look seriously at a multi-level marketing company do so because they don’t like what they do. They don’t believe in the company they work for or what they are doing for whatever reason. You want that person to love what they do.  In order to love their multi-level marketing company, they need to believe in the products and they need to be consuming that product themselves. Otherwise, why would they ever want to tell anyone else about the products?

The entire company is built on the product.  If no product moves, nobody is going to make money, no matter how big of a team you have. For many companies, autoship, or automatically receiving a certain amount of product each month is the backbone of the company. Most autoships are designed to give your customer (or yourself) one months worth of product. If they don’t love the product, why would they want to commit to buying it each month? If they aren’t using the product, but do commit to autoship, pretty soon they have a garage full of product and then no one is happy.

Perhaps the best reason to make sure you lead with the product is the fact that if your customer loves the product, they are gong to want to know more about the company. Once they find our how great the company is, they are going to want to let others know about this great company with these great products. Their team is born.

This approach is one to use with people that are not familiar with multi-level marketing or have, perhaps, been involved before, but not experienced the success they desired. If you always lead with the opportunity you can set up unrealistic expectations and you may experience much higher drop out rates.  People that love the product and have been given a little time to learn about the product are more receptive to the recruiting opportunity and are less likely to drop out.
